One QR code for iPhone and Android
Updated
Print one QR code that sends iPhones to the App Store, Android phones to Google Play and everyone else to your website.
If your app is on both the App Store and Google Play, you don't need two QR codes. One code can look at the phone that scanned it and send that person to the right store. Anyone on a laptop or another device goes to a page you choose, such as your website.
How it works
The code holds a short link instead of a store address. When someone scans it, KeeperQR checks the device and forwards them:
| Scanned on | Goes to |
|---|---|
| iPhone or iPad | Your App Store page |
| Android phone or tablet | Your Google Play page |
| Anything else | Your fallback page |
Because the code holds a short link, you can change any of the three addresses later without reprinting. That helps when an app moves to a new listing or you want the fallback to become a landing page.
Set it up
- In Studio, open the Content step and pick App download.
- Paste your App Store URL. It should be on
apps.apple.com. - Paste your Google Play URL. It should be on
play.google.com. - Add a Fallback URL (desktop), for example the download page on your website.
- Click Save QR Code.
If a store link points somewhere other than the expected store, Studio shows a warning next to the field. The warning is a heads-up for typos, such as pasting the Google Play link into the App Store box. It never stops you from saving.
Choose a good fallback
People on a laptop can't install a phone app, so send them somewhere useful. A page on your site with both store badges and a short description works well, because they can open it on their phone later.
Test before you print
Scan the saved code with an iPhone, an Android phone and a computer, and check that each one lands where you expect. Test before you print has a checklist. For print size and placement, see How to size a QR code for print.
